Elohim
Renowned Characters
Semiaza
Semiaza is reputed to be the first Elohim to Fall from Heaven. He’s meant to have been around in Ancient Greece, popped up in the Dark Ages, and in the Great War.He keeps a low profile though. Or perhaps he’s just a legend. You’re unlikely to have met anyone who claims to have met him personally, although the stories have spread widely among Elohim.
Roberto Cofresí (sample PC)
Tales of Roberto Cofresí are surely much exaggerated. A “Robin Hood” figure to the people of Puerto Rico in the 19th century, he was reputed to be able to make his ship disappear, to have escaped from prison twice, to have been seen many times after his death, and to have killed those who attempted to summon his spirit after death. He’s said to have been a noble gentleman, interceding many times for his local people, striking violently only against the Americans. He’s said to watch over Puerto Rico – even today, he’s been sighted.
Alach (sample PC)
Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom. (Matthew 16:28)
Alach, the Wandering Jew? It’s doubtful that Alach had Fallen at the time of the Crucifixion, but his wandering ways may well have given rise to the legend of Der Ewige Jude (The Immortal Jew), Le Juif Erran (The Wandering Jew), and Juan Espera a Dios (John waits for God).
The Fall
You were the chosen of God. His servants in Heaven. God loved you, and you served him. You’re sure you did.. although you can’t remember what you did. You were making the world better though, you know that. That’s hardwired in you – helping people, making the world better. Then he cast you out. You don’t even know why! God threw you out of Heaven. You weren’t the only one – many angels were cast down, thrown out. You were falling. Endlessly falling… through black emptiness. People flash past you, in distress, dying… Then you land with a bump. You’re not breathing, your heart isnt beating. You’re dead.. you can feel yourself fading away, but.. there’s something with you. A fire, carried with you. It runs through your body, burning.. and healing where it burns. Your heart beats once, a painful surge, then its beating again. You catch a breath. The damage to your body is burned away, and you’re alive. Awake. But where are you?
Others
You’ve been alive centuries now, and met dozens of other Elohim. They seem to have Fallen, just as you did, but at different times, awakening different dates in history. As time moves on, it accelerates, there are more and more falling. Very few are as old as you.
Time isn’t kind to Elohim – without the touch of God, they tend to forget the Plan – they become self-interested, some go mad. It happened to you, too.
You fell in love with a lady while visiting a foreign court. You didn’t know – some say didn’t care – that she loved another. You had to have her, at any cost. You tried to woo her, but though polite, she did not reciprocate your love. So you secretly used your power to change her feelings to you, to make her love you. With success: she fell for you, suddenly realised, it seemed, that she was desperately in love with you. The lovers ran away together that same day; they married; they lived together in a beautiful garden by a river. Soon enough they were blessed with two fine children, a boy and a girl.
The two of you were still happy the day Semiaza found you. She was appalled. She slapped Alach; she blocked his ability to re-engineer the minds of others, and in doing that she took away his power over his wife. When his wife realised what had been done to her, and that her love was false, her misery was great. When she remembered her own love, now irretrievably lost, it was incalculable. In revulsion and despair she threw herself into the river and drowned.
This version does not tell us the fate of the children. Were they drowned with their mother? Did Semiaza take them? Did she destroy them?
You were much more powerful then – you’ve not sought to increase your power again since, but you have learned how to defend yourself against the powers of rogue Elohim. You know a few tricks of how powers work, and how to make it hard for others to affect you. You’re much more resilient than other Elohim to such powers – perhaps this was always innate in you.
